On Wednesday 3 February 2021, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the Biden administration will keep recognizing Guaido as the rightful leader. He called Maduro a “dictator” and sees no talks with the Maduro regime in the short term. He also maintained that OFAC will keep targeted officials of the Maduro regime involved in corruption and human rights abuse.
This suggested that the new administration could stick to former President Donald Trump’s sanctions campaign in some form, despite its failure to force Maduro from power, Reuters reported.
